StudyHub has been brewing in Melissa's mind for quite some time.
Since starting tutoring in 2014, Melissa has been unimpressed with the lack of clear, concise online resources for New Zealand students. Quite frankly, she's thoroughly disappointed with the current state of teaching in schools, especially in maths, and the fact that students don't have a place to easily go for free help can be frustrating and upsetting for those who want to do their best.
Our goal for StudyHub is to provide students with all the resources they need to do well in school, completely free of charge.
Melissa is working hard to get this site fully up and running within the next few months, so that it can be used by students everywhere. Her team is fully open to suggestions; it's important that we make this site as helpful as we can.
Melissa is in Stage 3 of a Bachelor of Science at the University of Auckland, majoring in applied mathematics and statistics.
She graduated from Macleans College in 2015, having been part of their 'Gifted and Talented' accelerate programme for her five years there.
She received the NZQA scholarship for English in 2014, as a Year 12 student, and again the following year, as a Year 13 student.
Melissa received 'A' grades (above 80%) in all of her Cambridge International Exams: A-Level Mathematics, A-Level English Language, A-Level Classical Studies (top in the year), AS Economics, and AS English Literature.
At university, Melissa has successfully completed courses in maths, computer science, statistics, English, economics, physics, and dance. She is a two-time recipient of the Certificate of Outstanding Achievement in Computer Science from the University of Auckland Computer Science Department. She is currently undertaking courses in maths and philosophy.
Melissa has worked for the Harcourts Preet & Co. (now Bluegates Real Estate) Head Office as a Junior Web Designer/Marketing Assistant, and is currently a writer for Unleash Space. She also teaches tap dancing at Expressions Dance in Pakuranga.
Tutoring began for Melissa early 2014, when she started teaching primary school students English. A few months later she was hired as the sole English tutor for Brainstorm Tuition, where she tutored children from Year 6 up to Year 13.
In March 2015, Melissa began working as a maths tutor at mathZwise, East Auckland (now known as Mathz Edge). She had the highest student return rate out of all tutors at the company.
Throughout this time, Melissa has been tutoring students privately in maths, English, and economics, and has recently decided to tutor exclusively in this way. Private tuition is far more affordable for students and parents and allows for much more flexibility. Upon this site's completion, her students will be able to log in to receive personalised revision questions and notes tailored specifically for their areas of focus.
In addition to helping with maths, English, and economics (NCEA and CIE), Melissa is a proficient programmer and may be able to provide some help with the following languages: Java, PHP, Python, R, MATLAB, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
